Sloan signs deal to return as coach of Jazz for 23rd season
December 4, 2009
Jerry Sloan has recently signed a deal to return next year for his 23rd season on the sidelines as head coach of the Utah Jazz. The team announced the deal Wednesday.
Sloan is 67 years old and was inducted into the basketball Hall of Fame this September. He is the longest-tenured active coach in any of the professional sports. He also holds the mark as the longest tenured coach in NBA history.
Sloan took the Jazz to the NBA Finals in 1997-98 with Karl Malone and John Stockton, where they were defeated by the Michael Jordan-led Chicago Bulls. Last year he became the first coach in league history to amass 1,000 wins with one franchise.
Sloan’s Jazz host the Indiana Pacers on Friday night, with the NBA point spreads showing the team listed as a 7.5 point favorite.
