December 15, 2009
The Detroit Pistons’ Rodney Stuckey and the Utah Jazz’s Deron Williams today were named the Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for games played Monday, Dec. 7, through Sunday, Dec. 13.
Stuckey guided the Pistons to a 3-0 week by putting up 27 points per game on 53% shooting. He also added six assists, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.3 steals per game. He hit the game-winning field goal with 8.7 seconds left back on the 9th when the Pistons beat the Sixers in Philadelphia.
Williams averaged 21.8 points, 11.3 assists, and 4.3 rebounds while helping guide the Jazz to a 3-1 week. Twice he led his team is both scoring and assists. A big win against Orlando snapped a six game Magic winning streak and when they beat the Lakers on the 12th, not only did they revenge a loss from two nights prior, but they also snapped an 11-game Laker winning streak.
Other players who had a chance for the award were Cleveland’s LeBron James, Toronto’s Chris Bosh, Dallas’ Dirk Nowitzki, Houston’s Carl Landry, Memphis’ Rudy Gay and Zach Randolph, Oklahoma City’s Kevin Durant, Phoenix’s Steve Nash, and Portland’s LaMarcus Aldridge and Brandon Roy.
