Nowitzki returns to Mavs’ lineup from elbow injury
December 23, 2009
Dallas Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki will return to the starting lineup for Tuesday night’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers after missing the previous game and a half with a deep cut on his right elbow. This will be important when looking at the NBA point spreads for this game since Nowitzki is the Mavs’ top scorer, averaging 26.1 points per game. Nowitzki went in early to test his heavily-bandaged and padded elbow during a pregame shooting session at the team’s practice gym, and he felt OK to go.
The elbow injury occured on Friday night in a collision with Houston Rockets’ Carl Landry during the second quarter of Dallas’ overtime loss. Nowitzki had two of Landry’s teeth embedded in his elbow, and needed extensive treatment to clean out the wound. He missed the second half of that game and then missed Sunday night’s 102-95 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers.
