NBA Week 7 Hot & Cold
December 15, 2009
The teams that were hot in week 7 when it comes to covering the NBA point spreads may surprise some of you who follow the game. Those who are struggling to cash tickets are also somewhat surprising, so let’s take a further look. Remember, if you are going to do any NBA betting this winter then a great place to get in on the action is BetUS, which offers our readers a $500 match bonus!
You can make a lot of money with your NBA picks by riding the streaking teams that are hot, and by going against the teams that are cold. These are the teams you should pay close attention to in week 8 of the season:
The Hot List
Detroit Pistons: 5-0 ATS, 5-0 SU
The Pistons have won five straight games and are starting to find their new identity after parting ways with some of their past franchise stars. Point guard Rodney Stuckey is looking like the star player the Pistons though they had two seasons ago and Ben Wallace suddenly looks like the Ben Wallace of ‘old’. Detroit may not be in the same class as the elite teams in the league, but they’re looking very good heading into Week 8. Of course, getting Richard Hamilton back will only help matters.
Minnesota 4-1 ATS, 1-4 SU
Minnesota had its seven-game ATS winning streak snapped in its last outing but could continue to cover the NBA line for backers when the spread is high enough. Still, bettors need to be careful when wagering on the lowly Timberwolves since they are a terrible team who are just squeaking in when they are given enough points.
New York 4-1 ATS, 4-1 SU
New York has won four consecutive games heading into Monday night, including wins over Atlanta and Portland. If nothing else, New York can score the ball with any team in the league. If the Knicks play any sort of defense, they not only stand an excellent chance of cover the spread more often than not, but also surprising more opponents and winning outright. Just their scoring output gives them a solid chance of covering each night.
Atlanta 4-1 ATS, 4-1 SU
The Hawks have a boatload of athletic talent, but they’re not the most intelligent group of players I’ve ever seen. When the matchup looks right – and the Hawks don’t have to think too much – I say ride the Hawks. Just remember, things can change in a hurry with this ballclub as they are coming off somewhat of a cold stretch before this recent hot streak.
The Cold List
Chicago 0-5 ATS, 1-4 SU
The offensively-challenged Bulls are a complete mess right now and unless they make a big trade at some point soon, I don’t see any relief on the horizon for this mostly young ballclub. Chicago has gone 1-5-1 ATS over its last seven games and looks like an excellent team to wager against until they show some signs of life. How much longer will head coach Vinny Del Negro last?
Washington 1-4 ATS, 1-4 SU
The Wizards are the biggest bunch of underachievers in the league if you ask me. This team has talented veteran scorers but is clearly playing for themselves this season with a boatload of pending free agents trying to ‘get theirs’ in order to get a nice contract this coming offseason.
New Orleans 1-4 ATS, 3-2 SU
The Hornets have played some pretty darned good basketball under Jeff Bower, but New Orleans has more than its share of deficiencies. New Orleans has failed to cover the NBA point spread in four straight heading into Monday night and has a treacherous stretch of games coming up this week. The lines seem to have adjusted a little too much since this team got Chris Paul healthy and back into the lineup.
Dallas 1-4 ATS
The Mavericks are still legitimate Western Conference title contenders in my estimation, but the Mavs are struggling to cover the spread in a big way, going just 2-6 ATS over its last eight. However, I expect Dallas to win and cash in for NBA betting backers more often than not this season as they get even healthier heading into the annual all-star break.
New Jersey 1-4 ATS
The Nets are an NBA bettor’s dream team as they are a near-lock to fall against the spread almost every time out. If the Nets are playing a quality opponent and the NBA moneyline looks reasonable playing Jersey’s opponent will likely be a wise bet.
Philadelphia 1-4 ATS
Philly has lost 12 consecutive games and looks totally pitiful at this point. The Sixers have plenty of athletic players, but absolutely no direction from head coach Eddie Jordan and look like another excellent team to wager against until they start showing some signs of a pulse.
