NBA Week 5 Power Rankings
November 30, 2009
Eric Williams has a nice little article on where he sees each team in the league standing after Week 5 of the season. Power rankings can be a valuable tool for the handicapper to see if they spot any fishy NBA point spreads during the season. If you are having problems figuring out which of the lines look off and which are right on where they should be, then consider signing up for an NBA picks package offered by one of our expert handicappers. They do a good job of breaking down the numbers each night so you can end up a winner. Another way to start out a winner? The Los Angeles Lakers sit at the top of my NBA weekly Power Rankings for the first time this season, moving up two spots while heating up nicely over their last 10 games.
There was also more movement across the board with several teams rising and falling because of their on-court play in Week.
This look at the Week 5 NBA Power Rankings will give pro basketball betting enthusiasts the inside scoop on what to expect from every team in the league heading into Week 6.
1. Los Angeles Lakers 11-3 (Up 2) – The Lakers are looking like the Lakers again, winning six straight games to vault into the No. 1 spot for the first time this season.
2. Phoenix Suns 11-3 (down 1) – The Suns are still red-hot, winning four straight, but fall one spot because of the Lakers recent play.
3. Orlando Magic 11-3 (up 1) – The Magic have won three straight and look like the best team in the East at this point.
4. Boston Celtics 13-4 (Up 5) – The C’s aren’t firing on all cylinders just yet, but they keep winning. Boston has won four in a row.
5. Cleveland Cavaliers 12-5 (Up 2) – Cleveland has won four of its last five, suffering its only loss on the road against Charlotte just as I predicted last week.
6. Dallas Mavericks 12-5 (Same) – Despite a bump in the road here and there while battling injuries, the Mavs look like legitimate title contenders out west.
7. Denver Nuggets 12-5 (down 2) – The Nuggets have gone 3-1 over their last four but lost to Minnesota on Sunday.
8. Atlanta Hawks 11-3 (down 6) – Atlanta has lost three of four to come plummeting back to earth over the last eight days.
9. Portland Trail Blazers 12-7 (down 1) – Portland went 1-2 last week and enters Week 6 riding a two-game losing streak.
10. Utah Jazz 9-7 (up 3) – The Jazz have won two straight and five of its last six games overall.
11. Oklahoma City Thunder 9-8 (Up 2) – The Thunder went 2-1 last week, picking up quality wins against Utah and Milwaukee.
12. San Antonio Spurs 9-6 (up 3) – The Spurs haven’t looked spectacular or anything but they’ve managed to win five straight games.
13. Miami Heat 9-7 (Up 1) – Miami has dropped two straight but beat Orlando in a thriller.
14. Houston Rockets 8-6 (Down 3) – The Rockets snapped a two-game skid by beating Oklahoma City on Sunday.
15. Charlotte Bobcats 7-9 (Up 9) – The Bobcats are playing excellent basketball heading into Week 6, winning four straight games in emphatic fashion.
16. Milwaukee Bucks 8-4 (Down 6) – Brandon ‘Young Money’ Jennings and the Bucks have struggled lately, dropping four straight heading into Week 6.
17. Sacramento Kings 8-8 (Up 3) – The Kings have won three straight heading into Monday night, playing hard for Paul Westphal every time out.
18. Indiana Pacers 6-8 (down 2) – A 1-3 week will get you bumped down a few spots every time. Danny Granger clearly needs a bit more help from his young teammates.
19. Chicago Bulls 6-8 (down 1) – The Bulls have lost four straight games convincingly and head into Week 6 reeling.
20. Toronto Raptors 7-11 (Down 3) – Toronto lost all three of its games last week and could have Chris Bosh in its rearview mirror before they know it.
21. Los Angeles Clippers 8-10 (Up 1) – The Clippers have won two straight and are doing a really good job of hanging in there until Eric Gordon got back in the lineup.
22. New Orleans Hornets 7-10 (down 3) – New Orleans has lost two of three but haven’t played too bad even without Chris Paul.
23. Detroit Pistons 5-9 (down 2) – Detroit sapped a seven-game slide on Sunday, by beating the struggling Hawks but are still in bad shape right now.
24. Memphis Grizzlies 6-11 (Up 2) – The Grizzlies recorded a 1-2 mark during the week, but managed to beat Portland on the road to make a small statement.

26. Philadelphia 76ers 5-12 (down 3) – The Sixers lost three more game since last week and look like they could use Allen Iverson more than ever if you ask me.

28. Minnesota Timberwolves 2-15 (Up 1) – The Timberwolves have gone from bad to worse, losing 13 straight games heading into Week 5.
29. New York Knicks 3-14 (Down 2) – The Knicks have lost three straight last week and aren’t looking very good heading into Week 6.
30. New Jersey Nets 0-17 (same) – The Nets lost four more games over the last week and got Lawrence Frank fired while tying a league-record with 17 consecutive losing games to open the regular season.
