Dallas Mavericks forward Josh Howard is inactive for Saturday night’s game against the Charlotte Bobcats.  Dallas head coachRick Carlisle is resting Howard, who returned Tuesday night after missing 13 games to rehabilitate his surgically repaired left ankle, as precaution after Dallas played at Miami on Friday night.  With the team not having another back-to-back until late in December, the Mavs are hoping he’ll be ready to go in two straight nights by then.  Howard missed the first five games of the season recovering from the surgery, then lasted 2 1/2 games before being sidelined again. He is averaging 12.6 points and 3.6 rebounds this season.

The move almost cost Dallas a win as Charlotte took the Mavs to overtime.  Dallas did pull it out in the end though for a 98-97 victory.  Dirk Nowitzki had 38 points, while Eric Dampier pulled down 18 rebounds and Shawne Marion hauled in 15.
