Knicks Robinson Demands Trade
December 23, 2009
It seems that Nate Robinson really wants out of New York. The Knicks are saying that the agent for the benched guard, Aaron Goodwin, has formally asked the organization for a trade. The request came in on Saturday and Donnie Walsh has came out and said he will start discussions with Goodwin on the options.
There have been problems between Robinson and Knicks head coach Mike D’Antoni and since he isn’t playing, doesn’t appear to be on his way to playing, and the fact that it appears D’Antoni does not want him on the team led to the demand.
Robinson seemed to be no the way up after a productive 2008-09 season coming off the bench, but he hasn’t seen any action in the last eight games. D’Antoni said the benching wasn’t personal, it’s just that he doesn’t feel Robinson gives him the best chance of winning games.
Last year was Robinson’s breakout season when he put up a career best 17.2 points per game, but has struggled this year in his limited roll with only 10.9 points per game. He signed a one-year deal with the team this summer after seeing limited interest from other teams. Probably the highlight of his career has been winning the slam dunk contest two years in a row.
