Golden State at Philadelphia Picks
December 14, 2009
The Philadelphia 76ers play host to the Golden State Warriors on Monday, December 14th. The NBA point spreads show that they think their long losing streak might finally come to an end, as Philly is listed as a 4 point favorite with the total listed at 211. The Philadelphia 76ers have had franchise icon Allen Iverson back in the lineup for one week after resigning the beloved Hall of Fame-bound point guard to help improve the team’s poor quality of play this season. Seven days later, Philadelphia is still searching for its first victory with Iverson back on the team. The 76ers were defeated by the Houston Rockets 96-91 on Friday, failing to cash in for pro basketball betting backers as a 3-point home underdog despite getting a game-high 24 points from Andre Iguodala while Iverson added 20 points in the loss. Philadelphia failed to cover the NBA point spread fro the third consecutive game but has gone a respectable 5-5 ATS over its last 10 games overall.
Monta Ellis scored a team-high 29 points in the Golden State’s 104-95 loss to the Detroit Pistons on Saturday. The Warriors failed to cover the NBA moneyline as 5.5-point road underdogs as they got out-rebounded 39-25 in the loss. Golden State has gone 2-2-1 ATS over its last five games but just 4-5-1 ATS over its last 10 games overall.
Analysis: I’ll get right to the point with this selection and just say that, not only do the Philadelphia 76ers have big problems right now, but I don’t see any long term answer to their current state of dysfunction. Philadelphia is averaging just 96.2 points per game this season while the Warriors are putting up a whopping 107.2 per night. If nothing else, the Warriors can score the ball with its three and four-guard lineups while the Sixers need to find their identity and in a hurry. One of the problems I see with the Sixers this season is the fact that head coach Eddie Jordan seems as clueless as his players on most nights. Jordan’s inconsistent minutes and substitution rotations have me scratching my head more often than not, so I can only imagine how his players feel. I know the home team in this series has gone a perfect 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings, but I like the fact that the Warriors have gone an impressive 5-2 ATS in the last seven meetings against the Sixers and I expect them to cash in for pro hoops gamblers again tonight. Philadelphia doesn’t have a single player that can stop Golden State’s Monta Ellis and the Warriors also have one of the best shooters on the planet in rookie Stephen Curry. Corey Maggette and Anthony Morrow are also guys that can fill it up, which is why I’m taking the Warriors to cover the NBA moneyline as road underdogs in this matchup.
