LeBron, Carmelo Named Players of the Month for November

December 5, 2009

The Cleveland Cavaliers’ LeBron James and the Denver Nuggets’ Carmelo Anthony today named the Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Month for October/November. James paced the Eastern Conference in scoring (29.2 ppg), was second in assist (8.0 apg) and added 6.7 rebounds per game, leading the Cavaliers to a 12-5 start. James is one of only two players to record a triple-double this season (Rafer Alston) after recording 23 points, 11 rebounds and 12 assists on Oct. 28 at Toronto....

Josh Smith Ejected with Two Technicals

December 5, 2009

Josh Smith was ejected from the Atlanta Hawks’ game against the New York Knicks on Thursday night.  The first technical happened after he scored on New York’s Al Harrington. Smith apparently complained to referee Bob Delaney about Harrington’s defense, drawing the technical with 6:21 remaining in the second quarter.  When Smith walked to midcourt and continued his protests to Delaney, he drew his second foul and was tossed from the game.  Smith threw his mouthpiece to the floor...

Nelson to Skip Warriors’ Road Trip

December 5, 2009

Golden State Warriors head coach Don Nelson has not fully recovered from his bout with pneumonia and won’t travel with the team on its five-game road trip that begins Monday in Oklahoma City.  He has already missed five games after his Nov. 23 diagnosis but returned to the bench Thursday night for a home game against the Houston Rockets. A Warriors statement on Friday said team doctors recommended that Nelson stay in the San Francisco Bay area next week to regain strength and stamina. Golden...

Blazers coach ruptures Achilles

December 5, 2009

Portland Trail Blazers coach Nate McMillan ruptured his right Achilles tendon during practice Friday and will need surgery.  He still plans on coaching tonight’s game against the Houston Rockets, but he won’t be hitting the road when the team goes on their four-game trip next week.  Assistant coach Dean Demopoulos will take McMillan’s place starting Monday in New York while McMillan will have surgery on Monday. The NBA point spreads still have the Blazers listed as the favorite...

How Bad Are the Nets?

December 5, 2009

Ash Marshall did a great job in this article of giving a breakdown of the Nets season so far, and asking if they are really as bad as they appear in setting the record for futility to start the season. He starts with the preseason, where the team lost two close games to the Knicks—one by four points, another by two.  Then there was the loss to the Sixers despite leading by as many as 16.  One of the losses to the Celtics came despite carrying a nine-point lead into the fourth quarter and a one-point...

Love Could Return to Minnesota Saturday

December 4, 2009

Minnesota Timberwolves forward Kevin Love says he may play as soon as Saturday after missing the first 18 games of the season with a broken left hand. He was hurt in the preseason and needed surgery, putting him on the sidelines for the first portion of the season. Head coach Kurt Rambis said after Thursday’s practice that Love will be the one who determines when he is ready to play. The Timberwolves play at New Orleans on Friday night (where they are 9-point underdogs as listed with the...

2009-10 Slam Dunk Contest & LeBron James

December 4, 2009

LeBron James participating in this year’s All-Star weekend’s Slam Dunk Contest is no longer a sure thing. At last year’s event in Phoenix, LeBron said that he planned to dunk in the 2010 festivities in Dallas. Now James is down to “50/50″ on whether he plans to take part. The reason he initially wanted in was he thought last year’s contest was too “watered down” and his participation might revive the weekend’s signature event. Now even he has...

Sloan signs deal to return as coach of Jazz for 23rd season

December 4, 2009

Jerry Sloan has recently signed a deal to return next year for his 23rd season on the sidelines as head coach of the Utah Jazz. The team announced the deal Wednesday. Sloan is 67 years old and was inducted into the basketball Hall of Fame this September. He is the longest-tenured active coach in any of the professional sports. He also holds the mark as the longest tenured coach in NBA history. Sloan took the Jazz to the NBA Finals in 1997-98 with Karl Malone and John Stockton, where they were...

Ilgauskas Sets Cav’s Record for Games Played

December 4, 2009

Cleveland Cavaliers center Zydrunas Ilgauskas set a Cleveland record for games played with his 724th Wednesday night. He come off the bench with 3:50 left in the first quarter to move him past former teammate and current Cleveland general manager Danny Ferry. The home crowd gave Ilgauskas a standing ovation. This isn’t the only franchise mark “Z” owns as he is also the career leader in rebounds and blocked shots. Plus he’s one of only four players in team history to score...

Portland Blazers Links

December 4, 2009

Busta Bucket of the Bleacher Report did a good job of scouring the Internet to find links on all things concerning the Portland Trailblazers. Adrian Wojnarowski hears that the Blazers are looking for a forward and the team might be shopping around Andre Miller to get one. Travis Outlaw returns to Portland , and even though he will be out until March, just having him back is a bonus. Something that might have gotten overlooked by those focusing on the Oregon/Oregon State game, Casey Holdahl remembers...

Iverson Not Guaranteed to Start

December 4, 2009

Even though Allen Iverson openly displayed his frustrations with coming off the bench for both the Detroit Pistons and the Memphis Grizzlies, he wasn’t guaranteed a starting role with with the Sixers. GM Ed Stefanski told Fanhouse, “No one guaranteed Allen would start here, or that he would play X number of minutes.” The reason Philadelphia was so interested in the first place was the injury to point guard Lou Williams, who is expect to miss the next eight weeks. Many expect Iverson...

Matt Harpring Likely to Retire

December 4, 2009

Matt Harpring is hanging up his shoes for the rest of the season, and the Descret News is reporting that his career may be over as well. Harping has had to deal with a slew of injuries to his ankle and knees. Even though he hasn’t officially retired it would take a “miracle” for him to get back on the court. Harpring has had quite a few surgeries and has residual medical issues, making it nearly impossible for him to perform at an NBA-caliber level. The risk of additional damage...

Thomas for Harrington Trade Talks

December 4, 2009

Mark Strotman gives his opinion on the recent Thomas for Harrington trade talks taking place between the Chicago Bulls and the New York Knicks. This is the first real discussions we have heard of a trade so far in this young season and it seems like a good fit for both parties. Thomas is currently recovering from a broken forearm that has kept him out of the lineup for the last five weeks. Thomas has been getting better each year and at 23, still has plenty of room to grow. His high energy, athletic...

2009-10 NBA All-Star Predictions

December 4, 2009

Eitan Rosenberg offered up some NBA All-Star predictions that I feel are worth a look. Even though the season is only just over a month old, and there are still two months til the All-Star game, it’s never too early to start talking about who deserves a vote on the All-Star ballots. Eitan makes a good point that this year injury-riddled players from the past won’t be earning spots.  Also, thanks to injuries, there  shouldn’t be fear of global sensations like Yao Ming, or Yi Jinlian...

Donaghy Book & 60 Minutes

December 3, 2009

NBA Primetime is reporting that Tim Donaghy is going to publish a book and get air time on 60 minutes.  Why won’t this guy just go away.  His book titledPersonal Foul, “The book the NBA doesn’t want you to read” will be released in select stores on December 4th.  I doubt many of you are going to rush out to read it, but he might be even more in your face if you watch CBS as Donaghy has recorded an interviewed segment on the set of CBS news show “60 Minutes”, which will air on...

Ron Artest: Drinking During Halftime

December 3, 2009

Kyle Brown wrote a nice article on Ron Artest and all of the things he’s done over his career, with his latest antics being drinking Hennessy at halftime. Ron Artest is not new to criticism nor controversy with the most glaring point being when he helped start a riot at the Palace of Auburn Hills during his stint with the Indiana Pacers.  Just last week he was up to more of his old ways when he showed up at Jimmy Kimmel Live in just his boxers.  His list of disruptions is quite large, being...

Are the Lakers Becoming a Dynasty?

December 3, 2009

Harrison Moore brought up an interesting topic today with an article on if the Lakers are the next legendary team in the NBA? I’m a huge Lakers fan so this was especially interesting to me, let’s take a look at what he had to say as I add a few of my own comments. It’s true expectations kind of dropped off after the team’s 7-3 start, but that was mostly due to the injury to Pau Gasol. Phoenix might be off to a great start, but does anyone think that when the Lakers are functioning...

Allen Iverson to Philly: Happy Homecoming or Epic Mistake?

December 3, 2009

If you haven’t heard, Allen Iverson was re-signed by the Philadelphia 76ers yesterday.   Taylor Smith wrote a nice piece over at Bleacher Report on if this will be a happy homecoming or a big mistake by the team, and I think he made some good points. I agree that the key point here is AI realizing that he has diminishing skills and is no longer a franchise player.  This is a good move though with Lou Williams being out for two months.  They need a point guard, and a scorer which Iverson...

Iverson is Waived by Memphis

November 17, 2009

Allen Iverson’s time with the Memphis Grizzlies has come to an end.   On Monday it was announced that the team had ended its one-year experiment with the troubled 10-time All-Star and former league MVP after just three games. If you are looking for a book that won’t let you down, take a look at the $500 signup bonus offered to our readers by BetUS!
